Described in words

Six stages connected along a line: laboratory finding, replication, clinical trials, regulatory review, recommendation, and finally a delivered programme.

Between a result and a decision sit a series of very different questions. Is it real? Does it replicate? Does it hold in people? Is the benefit worth the risk, in whom, and at what cost? Does the recommendation survive contact with how care is actually delivered?

Medical affairs is the discipline of answering those questions honestly and in the right order, and of making sure that the people who need the answer receive it in a form they can act on.
